Service number - 12073 1900 - Enlisted - aged 17 1901 - Sheffield Barracks, Yorks, a gunner (Census) 1910, Mar - Corporal at time of marriage 1911 - Woolwich (Census) 1915, Apr - Sent to Salonika 1915, May - As Battery Sergeant Major, 97th Battery, Royal Field Artillery (12073) his gallantry during operations in the Dardanelles (Gallipoli) was acknowledged with the Distinguished Conduct Medal. 1915, Oct - 2nd Lieutenant, Royal Army Service Corps Transferred to France 1917, Aug 9th - 2nd Lieutenant, Royal Field Artillery, 465th Battery, 65th Brigade, fatally wounded at Zillelbeke Lake, just south-east of Ypres in Belgium.
